The LEGO Group Debuts Soccer-Themed LEGO Editions Line Featuring Global Athletes

The LEGO Group is expanding its sports portfolio with the launch of LEGO Editions, a new platform that blends collectibles, storytelling, and fan engagement through soccer-inspired building sets.

 

Timed to coincide with global football celebrations and the FIFA World Cup, the initial lineup highlights four of the sport’s biggest stars — Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, and Vinícius Júnior — each appearing as LEGO minifigures for the first time.

 

 

“With these new sets we’re bringing the thrill of football to life in a way that allows fans to build, create, and celebrate,” shares Julia Goldin, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at The LEGO Group. “We wanted to capture the essence of some of today’s greatest football players, and honor what makes them special, sparking imagination and excitement in kids and families worldwide.”

 

 

The collection includes multiple formats designed for display and play. “Football Highlights” sets for builders ages 10 and up feature stylized, letter-shaped builds tied to each player’s name, incorporating national team colors, jersey numbers, and Easter eggs referencing their careers. Each set includes a minifig and a collectible plaque.

 

“It’s not every day you get to be transformed into a LEGO set,” says Ronaldo. “I’m incredibly honored to be part of this new lineup of LEGO Editions, alongside three other incredible players in the sport.”

 

 

The LEGO Editions Lionel Messi – Celebration Set is 1,427 pieces and offers a 3D wall art display capturing the player’s signature victory pose, with detailed references to his legacy.

 

Additional “Football Legend” sets provide larger-scale builds of Messi and Ronaldo, each offering multiple display options to showcase iconic moments, including Ronaldo’s “Siuuu” celebration and Messi’s on-field movement.

 

“Similar to football, LEGO play is all about building and rebuilding, trying new things, learning from mistakes, and celebrating successes,” says Messi. “I love how these LEGO sets bring my on-pitch moments to life in a fun and imaginative way. I’m thrilled for fans to explore the magic of football through these sets and together celebrate the sport we all love.”

 

 

Beyond product, LEGO Editions extends into experiential marketing with pop-up activations worldwide. These include interactive installations such as a LEGO Wall of Fame, where fans can design custom jerseys, and Brick Kickers, a digital game that blends physical play with on-screen scoring.

 

The launch reflects LEGO’s broader strategy to connect with fans through passion points like sports, combining collectible design with interactive experiences that extend beyond the build.
